Pioneering leading-edge radiology and imaging techniques to advance the diagnosis of brain tumors and cognitive disorders

Research Overview

  • As one of Sutter Health’s leading neuroradiologists, Dr. Annie Lai specializes in using the latest imaging techniques to diagnose patients with brain tumors, sleep disorders, and cognitive impairment.
  • She investigates advances in the use of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), MR spectroscopy, diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) of brain tumors, and amyloid positron emission tomography (PET) imaging to determine the presence or absence of amyloid plaques in patients with cognitive impairment. She is an accredited interpreter of studies in these areas.
  • Dr. Lai lectures on topics ranging from cranial nerve pathway and cranial neuropathy for medical students, to PET-CT (positron emission tomography-computed tomography) preceptors for industry.
  • Recently voted a “Top Doctor” (Diagnostic Radiology) in Oakland Magazine, Dr. Lai collaborates with other healthcare specialists at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center and Eden Medial Center, who provide the latest approaches in diagnoses and treatments for patients with tumors of the brain and spinal cord, and other neurologic conditions.
  • Dr. Lai leads and helps recruit physicians in a multicenter clinical trial in the national coverage determination of amyloid imaging exams.
