Research Overview

  • Dr. Varjavand diagnoses and treats patients with stroke and neurovascular disorders.
  • Specializing in diagnostic radiology and vascular and interventional radiology, Dr. Varjavand leads research and pioneers minimally invasive neurointerventional techniques to care for patients with intracerebral and subarachnoid hemorrhage, and cerebral aneurysms.
  • He is a Principal Investigator for national clinical trials assessing new interventions to restore blood flow during an acute ischemic event, including novel stents and coiling devices, and carotid angioplasty. 
  • Dr. Varjavand presents nationally on advances in neuroradiology techniques such as functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and perfusion imaging.
  • He collaborates with other healthcare experts in the Sutter Neuroscience Institute Stroke Center  team, comprised of nationally recognized specialists caring for patients with cerebrovascular disorders.

Training

Dr. Varjavand received his M.D. from the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. He completed residency training and a fellowship in diagnostic neuroradiology at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA.
