Pioneering appropriate use and performance measurement of leading-edge radiology techniques to advance the diagnosis of brain and spinal injuries

Research Overview

  • Dr. David Seidenwurm is a nationally known radiologist with expertise in diagnosing and treating patients with brain and spinal cord injuries, and neurodegenerative illnesses.  He pioneers appropriate utilization and performance measurement of new and existing  diagnostic  imaging techniques to improve the diagnosis of traumatic brain injury, neuroendocrine disorders, brain and spinal tumors, spinal disease, and dementia.
  • Dr. Seidenwurm consistently publishes peer-reviewed scientific papers, consensus statements, and editorial commentaries. He has been Associate Editor of Radiology and a member of the Editorial Board of Diagnostic Imaging, the most influential scientific and professional journals in the field.
  • He holds several leadership positions related to medical quality improvement and consensus development nationally. He is co-chair of the American Medical Association Physicians Consortium committees on Performance Measures for Stroke, Radiology and Radiation Safety. In these positions he has helped develop, test and implement performance measures for radiologists in various Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services programs.
  • As one of Sutter’s  neuroradiologists, Dr. Seidenwurm presents nationally and internationally on healthcare quality and safety improvements, and advances in imaging technologies to improve diagnosis of  injuries and illnesses of the brain and spinal cord.
  • Dr. Seidenwurm is the Neuroimaging Lead for the Sutter Neurosciences Research Consortium.

Training

Dr. Seidenwurm received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA. He completed residency training in diagnostic radiology at Stanford University Medical Center in Palo Alto, CA, followed by a fellowship in neuroradiology at New York University Medical Center in New York, NY.
