Developing new surgical and radiotherapy techniques to treat cancer

Research Overview

  • Dr. Gregory Graves specializes in the surgical treatment of solid tumors of the liver, pancreas, colon, lung, esophagus and breast. He is board certified in surgery.
  • He pioneers new surgical techniques including microwave thermal therapy, and radiotherapy techniques such as brachytherapy and targeted intraoperative radiation therapy. Many of these techniques allow for localized, precise targeting of cancer cells with minimal radiation exposure and damage to healthy tissue and organs. Dr. Graves also has extensive experience with cytoreductive surgery and heated intra-peritoneal chemotherapy.
  • As Regional Medical Director of Cancer Services for the Sacramento-Sierra Region, Dr. Graves developed a regional chemotherapy infusion program, integrated cancer research at a regional system-wide level, and developed a virtual tumor board.
  • Dr. Graves presents at national scientific meetings on surgical advances in the treatment of cancer, and on community-based cancer care programs.
