  • Dr. Binmoeller is an internationally recognized expert in advanced endoscopic procedures and endosonography. He is board certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine.
  • He investigates new diagnoses and treatments for gastrointestinal (GI) disorders and upper GI tract tumors.
  • Dr. Binmoeller founded and directs the Interventional Endoscopy Services (IES) Program at CPMC—the premier referral center in Northern California for patients requiring complex endoscopic therapy. In collaboration with CPMC clinicians Drs. Janak Shah and Yasser Bhat, Dr. Binmoeller performs over 5,000 therapeutic procedures annually that span the entire spectrum of interventional endoscopy.
  • Author of over 200 publications and the book, Therapeutic Endoscopy: Color Atlas of Operative Techniques, Dr. Binmoeller trains and mentors endoscopists from academic and medical centers worldwide.


Dr. Binmoeller obtained his M.D. from the University of Freiburg in Germany and the University of Bern, Switzerland. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, and a fellowship in gastroenterology at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, Oregon. Before joining CPMC as Director of Interventional Endoscopy Services, Dr. Binmoeller was Director of Endoscopy and Associate Professor of Medicine and Surgery at the University of California, San Diego.
